House Clearing and Blessing (and a tiny bit of feng shui)

What does it mean to clear and bless a home?

It means breaking up and releasing old, stagnant, negative energy that may have built up in a home over time.

When would one want a house clearing and blessing? 

A person or family may want a house clearing/blessing when moving to a new house. Clearing the energy of the previous owners prior to moving in can allow your own energy to flow through the home. 

​

We might also clear our home after stressful situations as that energy can remain in our house even after the event has passed. For instance, if we argue in our living room, I might clear that space of that negative energy and allow positive energy to remain. 

​

During or after renovations to a home would be a good time to clear out the old energy and allow your new, creative energy to flow into your home. 

​

If a person feels "off" in their home, it might be a good time to clear and bless the house. 

​

At a significant time in the homeowners life when "new beginnings" would be desired. For instance, Winter Solstice, the New Year, the beginning of a new job or new school year, a baby is about to born, or life changes.

What happens during a house clearing a blessing?

Prior to the clearing and blessing:

One of the first things I ask a home owner to look at before I get there is the physical "clutter" in the home. What things in the home are simply "taking up space." Are there items that are being kept simply because we are used to seeing them or do they hold value (sentimental or monetary)? Why are we hold on to those items? If you were to move houses today, would that item be something you would want to pack up and move with you? If you could part with it, why aren't you?

House Clearing and Blessing: 

Typically, we (the home owner and I) discuss why the house is to cleared and blessed. Then, we walk around the home with sage (we can use another form of clearing if sage smoke is unpleasant to the homeowner), and we break up and clear out the old, stagnant, negative energy. Then we draw in positive, loving energy to fill up the newly cleared out home. Lastly, we bless the house to maintain the new, loving feelings just created.
